License Fees To Use

Bruce Butler Photography has a simple licensing schedule for the images on the Web site used in low volume applications. There are no fees for searching and viewing our images, however, there is a fee for licensing images. These are the file sizes recommended for the production of digital presentations and printed pieces. The images on the Web site are typically raw, and are color corrected and digitally touched-up as required prior to delivery.
All of the fees are for a one-time license to use the image. If you license an image and later decide to use it for a longer use period, greater production run, or use it in another category, you must license and pay the fees for the new or additional usage.
The
following prices apply only to the images on BruceButlerPhoto.com.

1. Your setup "Comp" images
are FREE, additional "Comp" images can also be purchased.
Online thumbnail previews and online low-resolution images (70KB to 120KB) are
FREE for viewing and internal "test" presentations. They may be used
for internal preview use and F.P.O (for position only) "comps" for
layout presentations only and may not be used for publication. Larger, ~900
x 1280 pixel (about 200KB) comp images can be licensed for $30. These
larger comp images do not have a watermark as do the online low-resolution
images (the 80KB size).

Use Term: The use period or time limit for the license.
Circulation: The maximum circulation, production run, or number of copies that can be produced or distributed during the license term.
80KB: Refers to a 70 to 200 kilobytes image file. Approximate image size is about 800 x 500 pixels to 1280 x 900 pixels.
5MB: Refers to a 5 to 12 megabyte image file. Approximate image size is about 4200 x 2800 pixels.

These descriptions are for typical uses within each category. If the definitions or examples listed here do not define your particular use, circulation, or image file size needs, please refer to our Price Quote Form.
Personal, general: Home and personal uses, i.e. screen savers, personal stationary, invitations, greeting cards, school projects, and personal artistic reference. No commercial, business, for profit, resale or Web page use.
Personal Web page: Use on your personal World Wide Web page or online service. (If your Web page is of a commercial nature, i.e. to promote, advertise, or sell a product or service, please refer to the "Business Web page".)
Business (small) Web page: Use on a World Wide Web page or online service by a small business (under 10 employees), an educational institution or non-profit organization to promote, advertise, sell a product or service, or for public relations.
Business Print, internal: Short run, "Publishing on Demand" business (including educational institutions) uses for internal distribution. Examples might include: company or club newsletters, manuals, and internal publications.
Business Print, external: Short run, "Publishing on Demand" business uses for external distribution. Examples might include: printed brochures, catalogs, sales flyers, manuals, and promotional post cards. Also includes editorial use in magazines, newspapers and books. It does NOT include the use in magazine or newspaper print advertising, or use on any product for sale, or product package design.
Business Display, internal: Display prints for internal use. Examples might include: Office decor prints, P.O.P (point of purchase) displays and banners within your company store or institution. Does NOT include use in displays outside of company owned buildings, i.e. as trade shows, conventions, and shopping mall common areas.
Electronic, non-resale: Electronic Kiosks and similar electronic presentation devices. Also includes corporate/educational internal presentation use, i.e. slide presentations, computer slide show or video presentations, multimedia, etc., which are viewed within an organization and are not published externally or produced for resale.
Electronic, resale: For use in electronic (digital image) products that are sold to the public, i.e. inter-active CD-ROM, educational and entertainment products, games, screen saver products, and general software.
For your protection and ours: Please place a copyright notice somewhere on the page (printed piece, screen, or Web page) that includes our image, so that others will know it is a licensed and protected image. Why? A copyright notice is to let others know that you plan to protect your product (which may include your design, written text, graphics, and our images) from unauthorized copying and use by others. Without this notice, your design and our images stand the chance of falling into the public domain (especially when published on the Internet)!
How to do it: When you license an image from us, this gives you the right to display a copyright in your own name. Proper copyright notices must include the copyright symbol or word, your name or company name, and year your product was published. Examples: "Copyright Your Name 1996", "© Your Name 1996", or "© Your Name MCMXCVI". Editorial use of our images in magazines, newspapers and books requires a credit line or copyright notice in the name of the photographer (located on our online low-resolution images).
To receive the full protection of the Copyright Act, you may wish to register your copyright with the U.S. Copyright Office. Please note that a license from us does not allow you to license and resell our images to others. Additonal copyright information is available about our images.

Online Delivery: The Bruce Butler Photography offers FREE online delivery of licensed images. All digital images are digitally photographed in 24-bit RGB. Images are formatted in a high quality JPEG compression. Typical compressed file sizes are:

Once an image license has been requested, we can deliver the image usually
within a few hours as an e-mail attachment. FTP (File Transfer Protocol) is also
available upon request.
CD-ROM Delivery: Each CD-ROM can accomodate from 20 to 600 images, depending on resolution, size, and whether the files are in TIFF or JPEG format. The delivery charge is $35 per CD-ROM, plus shipping costs. Delivery time is usually within 24 hours to 48 hours.
